What is probate?

Probate is a legal process that takes place after someone dies. It includes filing at the courthouse, validating the will, inventorying and valuing estate property, paying debts and disbursing remaining assets.

Do I have to file & go through probate?

Most folks do, however there are circumstances where you will not be required to file. Best to consult with your attorney on this question. If you need a referral to a great attorney, we can help.

Where do I go to file probate?

You will usually work with the appropriate court in the state and county where the deceased permanently resided at their time of death. You can contact us for help, or you can type in the appropriate county and state plus the word "probate" into Google for specific details.
